HYPERTENSION - BEWARE THE
HIDDEN SALT!
I
think most of us are now aware of the link between salt and
hypertension. After all,
Doctors do advise to lower salt intake when treating patients
with this condition. But did you
know, that by changing your salt to either good salts, such as Himalayan
Salt and addressing your water intake, then you can fight
this battle naturally and win it without the use of health damaging,
blood pressure lowering drugs and their very real harmful side effects.
Of course, the very first thing that must be done, is to remove the
toxic processed product that goes by the name of table salt, that still
holds pride of place on such a large number of people’s dining tables.
Next is to ensure that your water intake is sufficient for your
body’s weight and needs.
But one issue that seems to be forgotten is the issue of the hidden
salt. The insidious salt that we
are unaware that we are consuming, the toxic salt that is contained in
the preservatives that is present in all processed foods. Many prepared
foods, including soups, cereals, frozen dinners and canned vegetables,
contain large amounts of salt.
For example, in a one-cup serving of canned soup there can
be nearly 1,000 milligrams of salt. Dietary
guidelines say you shouldn't consume more than 2,400 milligrams of salt
a day. Many canned vegetables have
300 milligrams to 400 milligrams of salt in a half-cup serving.
So you can see from these examples alone, just how hard the fight
is going to be. Products like
salad dressings, prepared frozen meals, packaged rice dishes, and
low-calorie products, are just another few containing incredibly high
amounts of processed salt. Compound
this with the favourite baked products, such as bread, cakes, biscuits
etc., and you can see that we are being bombarded by salt products from
all food categories, not to mention the ‘killers’ such as potato
crisps and all salted snacks.
